WATER RESISTANCE

ABOUT WATER RESISTANCE

The physical condition of the watch case and it’s components as well as the gaskets located in the case back, crown, push buttons and crystal affect the water resistance of your watch.  If your watch is regularly exposed to water,  these items  should be checked by a watchmaker at least 1-2 times a year.

The crown and push buttons are vulnerable to leaks. Watches with a “screw down” crown normally provide the best protection. Cracks and chips in the crystal can cause leaks which can damage the dial, hands and more.  At the first sign of condensation or fogging under the crystal, have your watch serviced immediately.

Leaks in the back of the watch are usually caused by missing or worn gaskets.  Always have your battery replaced by a watchmaker to ensure that worn gaskets are properly inspected and replaced if necessary.  We have noticed that discount battery places pay little attention to worn gaskets.

Hot Tubs / Sauna / HOT Bath or Shower:
NEVER EVER WEAR YOUR WATCH IN A HOT TUB OR ANYTHING WITH HOT WATER!   The extreme heat will likely ruin your watch!

Water Resistance General Guidelines:
Always refer to your owners manual for water resistance usage and maintenance.  The water resistance of your watch should be marked on the case back.
